How It Works
While other clinics offer laser mole removal in Sydney, we utilise radiofrequency (RF) energy which is a type of electromagnetic energy. In RF mole removal, a specialised device generates high-frequency electrical currents that create heat.
Using a small probe or electrode connected to the RF device this heat is applied to the mole, vaporising the mole tissue layer by layer. This process allows for precise control over the depth and area of tissue removal, making it especially ideal for facial mole removal.
With the heat generated helping to coagulate blood vessels, bleeding and the risk of infection are also reduced.
Appointment Preparation
To prepare for your appointment we advise:
- No consumption of fish oil, Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Ibuprofen, and/or Omega-3, unless medically necessary, for 48-72 hours before the procedure as these are all blood thinners which may cause poor coagulation.
- For body mole removal, wear loose, comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear depending on the removal site.
- For face mole removal, the area being treated should be freshly cleansed and free of any serums, lotions, sunscreen or makeup.
Should you be taking any prescribed skin medications that contain retinol, please advise us of this during your initial consultation as you may not be suited to this treatment.
What To Expect
Once you are settled in one of our private treatment rooms, you will be asked to lie down and a small amount of local anaesthetic will be administered to each of the cleaned removal sites.
After confirming these areas are properly numbed, your technician will begin the removal procedure, applying the RF probe to the mole and gently scraping the tissue away. As the mole is vaporised, you may notice a burning smell, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about.
Immediately following removal, there is usually a slightly indented area where the mole was with a pale tan base being all that is left behind. A wound dressing or bandaid is then applied to protect the area.
Aftercare
To achieve the best possible outcomes you should keep the removal site dry and covered for at least 2-3 days post-procedure or until the residual mole tissue flakes off.
You will be provided with an antibiotic ointment to use during healing which will help to prevent infection and stop the wound from drying out or forming a crust which can lead to scarring. Additionally, sun exposure should be limited and SPF worn to protect against repigmentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does Mole Removal Cost In Sydney?
The cost involved with having your moles removed will vary based on factors such as the number and type of moles being removed. We recommend getting in touch for a tailored consultation so we can best advise on the cost of this procedure.
Does Mole Removal Hurt?
As an anaesthetic is used to numb the area prior to the procedure, there is no sensation or pain during the removal process. You may experience a small amount of discomfort when the local anaesthetic is injected or as it wears off post-procedure. Over-the-counter pain relief can be taken to help ease this as necessary.
How Long Does Mole Removal Take?
The duration of your Sydney mole removal appointment will depend on the number of moles being treated. Generally, it only takes a few minutes to remove each mole, however, added time is needed to anaesthetise the areas and apply dressings once completed
Can Any Mole Be Removed?
Body or facial mole removal at our Sydney clinic is only suitable for benign (non-cancerous) moles and small lesions such as skin tags. We request that all moles be evaluated by a dermatologist or skin specialist to rule out any malignancy or concerns in advance of the removal procedure.
Does Mole Removal Cause Scarring?
With any mole removal procedure, there is always a risk of scarring. While our method is known to cause minimal to no scarring, certain skin types or those prone to keloid scarring may find they are left with a visible mark following removal.
